So to avoid software miss-function, working Virtualbox image was created.

All the software and tools you might need for coding and flashing a BMW, are pre installed and configured in a Virtualbox image. Works with a K+Dcan cable – INPA, NCS Expert + NCS Dummy, WinKFP, EDIABAS, ToolSet 32, BMW Coding tool, NavCoder, BMW PassThru Tool + iToolRadar + EasyConnect for connecting with other cables (ICOM, Ethernet, etc.)

Versions:

  • Inpa 5.0.6
  • EDIABAS 7.3.0
  • NCS Expert 4.0.1 (pass: repxet)
  • NCS Dummy 0.6.0.7
  • Tool32 4.0.3
  • WinKFP 5.3.1
  • SP-DATEN 53.3
  • BMW Coding Tool 2.5.0
  • Dr.Gini – 2014
  • NavCoder 2.9.183
  • BMW PassThru Tool

All the posible K+Dcan USB drivers are available through the shortcut on the Desktop (USB Drivers) – for maximum compatibility with chineese noname ones try the OriginalCable subdirectory or FakeCable

All the software comes with english interface and pre configured USB K+Dcan cable.
For coding – use the included BMW Coding tool and get SPDATEN from the internet. To share a folder from your host machine (eg. your Downloads folder where the SPDATEN probably will end up) – Machine > Settings option in a virtual machine’s window and select Shared Folders. There are two types of shared folders — Machine Folders are permanent folders that will be shared until you remove them, while Transient Folders are temporary and will be removed when the virtual machine restarts or shuts down. Click the Add button or right-click in the list and select Add Shared Folder to add a new shared folder. The folder path is the location of the shared folder on your host operating system, while the name is how it will appear inside the guest operating system. Because this is Windows XP – to access the shared folder – right click on My Computer > Explore, from there click on the expand icon (+) right next to My Network Places and you should be able to see VirtualBox Shared Folders.
To use with ICOM – change the Network adapter from NAT to Bridged with your LAN card.
Settings > Network > Adapter 1 (currently NAT) goes into Bridged mode or if you still want Internet connection in the VM, add another one – Adapter 2 (Bridged) and leave adapter 1 as it is.

Size: ~ 3.83 GB

You will get 2 Virtualbox images

Supported moddels: E31, E34, E36, E38, E39, E46, E52, E53, E60, E65, E70, E83, E85, E87, E90, F01, F02, F07, F010, F011, F025, F30

Here is the guide on “how to”, for more information please refer to https://www.virtualbox.org/

Installation method:

BmwBmw winkfp daten files

Download Virtualbox and its extention pack and install it.
Open Virtualbox, go to “Machine” and press “Add”
Navigate to the software location and highlight the Blue color file (you can ignore the name) and press “open”
Go to Virtualbox, highlight the image and press “Start”

Installation method 2:

Bmw Winkfp
  1. Download the [BMW] [BMW] INPA WinKFP NCSExpert .ova or .vmdk file (virtual machine)
  2. In VirtualBox – File=>Import Virtual appliance
  3. Choose the downloaded OVA or VMDK file and on the next step tick “Reinitialize the MAC address of all network cards”
  4. Start the Virtual Machine
  5. Next step – plug the K+Dcan cable, start the virtual machine and transfer it to it – from the menu – Devices>USB choose your cable (usually something that has 600 in the name, but probably you’ll know which one is it…)
  6. In the VM – right click on My Computer=>Manage=>Device Manager and check whether the cable is correctly isntalled – Ports (COM & LPT) – USB Serial port must be on COM1. If else – follow the readme instructions and use the drivers from the OriginalCable folder.

This VM is for VirtualBox. It is not convertable to VMWare and it would not work. If you are getting blue screen of death – the problem is with your installation not with the image. Try it on something else and follow the provided instructions strictly!

Here is WinKFP setup/installation tutorial, based on the E60 daten from ISTA/P 2.39. This assumes you have installed INPA/Ediabas and WinKFP and they are running correctly. This was done on a WinXP 32 bit system.

  1. Unpack the V2.39 ISTA daten folders for SP-daten-E60 somewhere on your harddrive.
  2. Open WinKFP, then choose “Import/Export” in the main menu, and pick “Import” then “PABD”
  3. Browse to your unpacked daten folder and drill down to “sgdat”. [base]SP-daten-E60sgdat. Hit CTRL-A to select all files, then click “Import”
  4. Now select again “Import/Export” in the main menu, and pick “Import” then “P-SGBD” and, like step 3, browse to your unpacked daten folder and drill down to “ecu”. [base]SP-daten-E60ecu. Hit CTRL-A to select all files, then click “Import”
  5. Now select again “Import/Export” in the main menu, and pick “Import” then “Assembly Line Data”
  6. Browse to your unpacked daten folder and drill down to “data”. [base]SP-daten-E60data and make sure “data” is highlighted and select “OK”
  7. Depending on how big the data are, you may have to wait awhile. Go get a sandwich. Don’t abort. SP-daten-E89 took 10 minutes or more on my laptop and the program appeared frozen for several minutes. Eventually, it should return control.
  8. Open the regular file explorer and browse to your unpacked daten folder and drill down to “gdaten”. [base]SP-daten-E60datagdaten

Hit CTRL-A to select all files, then CTRL-C to copy all files to clipboard. Now browse to your NFS folder (usually C:EC-APPSNFS or just C:NFS depending on your installation) then browse down to “datagdaten” and hit CTRL-V to paste the copied files. If there are files already in this directory, overwrite them with the files you copied.

Now exit WinKFP and, if desired, backup your NFS dir and EDIABASECU dir so you don’t have to go through this again.

  1. Run WinKFP. You may see a message like this:

Don’t panic. For some reason there are some lines in some of the SGIDC.AS2 files that are too long for WinKFP. SGIDC.AS2 is an ASCII text file and can be edited with notepad or another editor. Just load it up (you may have to add a .txt extension and remove it after editing) find the line specified in the box above and put a semi-colon in front of it (“comment” it out) or remove it completely. I don’t know if it is ever needed or if it should be truncated or what, but I’ve never run across any bad behavior by removing it.

Do this again if there are other long lines in the file; you can easily determine this as most lines will all be the same length and the problem lines will be twice as long or longer.

If all went well, you should have all the files needed to program ECUs with WinKFP.

Btw, I plugged those numbers in and I get “Assembly identification number not found in files determined by xxkfconf.da2”

I’d go the “Update ZUSB” route. Click “Comfort Mode” then “Update ZUSB” (F3). Select your ECU Family from the list (I’d guess “SBSL65”, “SBSR65” for the first two, but I don’t know about DDE. My DME/DDE is MSV70 which doesn’t seem to match).

After selecting the ECU Family, enter your VIN and hit OK. Now hit “Done” which goes back a screen, then you have a new option: “Prog ZB Update”. Select it and, if you have the right ECU family, you should get a box like this:

If you don’t have the correct ECU family, then I don’t think you’ll get this far, but don’t take my word for that. Try selecting something you know you don’t have and see if it gives you anything.

Entering: 7832868 – my bmw ECU part number into ZUSB brings up nothing but an error: Error 704:

Error on determining the ZB number!

The errors are because you input the wrong ZUSB (DME assembly number). It wants the DME firmware version, also called ZUSB (called Assembly Number in INPA). But doing that is not normally necessary.

Are you just updating your current DME? If yes, you do not need to input your current ZUSB.

Just do this:

– Choose “Comfort mode”.

– Choose “Update ZUSB”

– Select your DME type (MSS54 for your M3).

– Choose “Enter VIN” and enter your full VIN.

Bmw Winkfp Daten Files

– Choose “Done” and it will go back one page.

Bmw Inpa Ediabas Ncs Expert Tool Winkfp

– Choose “Prog. ZB-Update” and it will display both your current ZUSB and a proposed update ZUSB.

– Choose “Yes” to begin programming.
